The HSS upcute 2 flute slot milling cutter with twisted cutting edges made of HSS is suitable for milling keyways (drilling grooves). Cutting speeds when milling with a twisted slot milling cutter :

The cutting speed is the speed at which the slot milling cutter mills off the chips on the workpiece. Therefore, do not confuse with the feed rate or speed!

These guide values can be assumed for the cutting speed vc when machining with the HSS slot milling cutter:

  • Aluminium and aluminium composite materials: 100 to 400 m / min
  • Non-ferrous metals such as brass, copper, bronze: 80 to 160 m / min
  • Plastic and plastic: 60 to 200 m / min
  • Wood and wood - based materials: 1000 to 2500 m / min

The values below are valid for milling depths of two to three times the HSS slot milling cutter diameter when milling the specified materials. Depending on the specific properties of the material to be machined, other values are also possible.

Please note: However, these are only guidelines with which to start. Because every milling machine behaves differently.
