The solid tungsten carbide K05 (STC) used for the profile knives 09.0026 is a powder metallurgical product consisting of highly wear - resistant particles, carbides and a metallic binder. The wear resistant grains are usually metal carbides of tungsten, titanium, tantalum and niobium. Bonded with cobalt, they form a series of tungsten carbide grades that meet every requirement in the machining sector.
The fact that cutting materials achieve ever higher cutting volumes is ultimately due to the addition of a high percentage of hard materials or carbides. For example, hardened carbon steel with only a few percent carbides or HSS with about 20% carbides is significantly less wear - resistant and heat - resistant than carbide with about 90% carbides.
The micro grain carbide used for our profile knives 09.0026 consists of tungsten carbides and cobalt as binder.
