Which abrasives are available?

NK - normal corundum: consists of more than 94 % aluminium oxide (Al2O3). It is used for machining unalloyed and low-alloyed steel, for cast steel or for grey cast iron. The toughness allows higher contact forces.

EK - High - grade corundum: consists of almost 100% aluminium oxide (Al2O3). This has a high hardness and a heat resistance of up to 2000 °C. Therefore, corundum is suitable for tough tool steel above 60 HRC. It can also be used for grinding and polishing glass and all steel materials that require a cool finish.

SiC - silicon carbide: Silicon carbide has a heat resistance up to about 1600 °C. It is characterised by hardness and hardness. It is characterised by hard, sharp - edged SiC crystals. These are harder and more brittle than normal corundum or precious corundum. The area of application includes non-ferrous metal, stainless or high-carbon steel, ceramic and mineral materials.

What grit size do I need?

A medium or coarse grit is used when the surface quality is not so important. The coarser the grit, the faster the material removal. Therefore, a coarse grit is more suitable for large contact areas than fine grit sanding discs. Coarser grits are also the better choice for soft, tensile and tough materials such as mild steel and aluminium.

A fine grit is used when a better surface finish is to be achieved. Finer grit should also be used for smaller contact areas. Fine grit abrasives are more suitable for machining hard and brittle materials such as glass, tool steel and carbide.

P, Q, R hard
S, T, U very hard

Which hardness is right for my application?

The hardness of the abrasive discs describes the resistance that the bond offers to the abrasive disc when the abrasive grains break out.

If you choose a bond that is too hard, the used, blunt abrasive grain will not be torn out of the backing material during grinding. As a result, the cutting ability of the disc is greatly reduced. A grinding wheel that is too soft leads to increased wear and a low tool life.

Low hardness:

  • is used for hard materials, hardened steels, tool steels or high-speed steel
  • is advantageous for large contact areas
  • leads to higher material removal
  • lower tool life of the grinding wheel

High hardness:

  • is used for softer materials
  • is advantageous for smaller or narrower contact surfaces
  • leads to longer service life of the grinding wheels

Workshop - stock sale: The grinding wheels come directly from the workshop stock and may therefore show discolouration or dirt due to storage, but this does not affect their usability.

All grinding wheels Ø = 200x32x32mm are only in stock in the quantity that can be ordered above. Delivery of this sale item is therefore only possible while stocks last.
