The ceramic bonds of the 160 cup grinding wheels consist of a mixture of clay, kaolin, feldspar, quartz or glass frits. At firing temperatures between 1100 °C and 1250 °C, these binders sinter or melt. As the pore space increases, they form the binding bridges between the abrasive grains. The fired ceramic binders are largely insensitive to chemical influences. This means they can be stored indefinitely! Due to their limited elasticity, however, they are sensitive to impact, shock and rapid temperature changes.
